"The French Alpine village of Megève has long been a favorite destination for skiers, with a sophisticated yet charming atmosphere and numerous snow-covered slopes. Originally inspired by the glamorous Swiss resort of St. Moritz, Megève owes much of its popularity to the Rothschild family, particularly Baroness Noémie de Rothschild, who transformed it into a luxury ski resort by adding ski lifts and accommodations in the 1920s.
Located at an elevation of 1,800 meters in the Mont d'Arbois area, just above the main town, Megève attracts vacationers year-round not only for skiing but also for hiking to the peaks that are part of the Mont Blanc massif. The main village is just a 10-minute drive away, where distinguished visitors, such as French singer Sacha Distel and artist Jean Cocteau, have come to enjoy the charm of Megève, a quieter alternative to nearby Courchevel. Recently, Megève’s charm has reached a new audience thanks to the popular Netflix series *Emily in Paris*, which has once again put it in the spotlight as a must-visit winter destination.
Beyond the newest spots, you'll find classic favorites like Le Vieux Megève, known for its generous raclettes by the fire, and L’Epicerie des Fermes, which is brimming with local products and features an ice-skating rink surrounded by small Christmas trees.
Le Mont Blanc, one of the oldest hotels in Megève, is a 38-room boutique hotel in the heart of the village, also owned by the Sibuet family (who also own Les Fermes de Marie). Named after one of Europe’s highest peaks, this elegant and relaxed hotel has long been a favorite among Megève enthusiasts, combining a rich history with contemporary tastes. The hotel even served as the setting for Roger Vadim’s *Les Liaisons Dangereuses* in 1952 and was a gathering place for the artist Jean Cocteau and his friends, as well as other celebrities.
The cozy lobby tea room and bar is decorated in cream tones—a nod to fresh snow—with warm wood finishes, original artwork, and a cozy fireplace. Mid-century armchairs upholstered in bouclé invite guests to relax while savoring the hotel’s signature hot chocolate, made with real melted chocolate, or a cocktail. On the upper floor, each room and suite features a unique design, such as the Sacha Distel Suite, named after the famous French singer of the 1960s who often stayed here. This suite’s private balcony offers views of the village church’s bell tower and the surrounding mountain peaks.
The hotel also features a small Pure Altitude Spa, known for its restorative treatments, and a compact pool. For dining, the adjacent restaurant, Le Relais, offers a sophisticated take on local Savoyard cuisine, putting a modern spin on traditional dishes. The menu features classic fondue with a lighter twist, alongside hearty dishes such as risotto with chanterelle mushrooms or braised mountain lamb shank served with creamy polenta.
